- TWO HUNDRED More Activity Ideas – Show each one on a large display at the start of every day. Each activity is designed to be used independently by children so that they can settle to their learning while you complete the register and other early morning tasks. The activities cover a wide range of subjects and topics and are intended to be used by children of all ages and abilities. All of these challenges can also be used as extension activities during lessons or as discussion activities at the end of the day.
- ONE EMA2 Pack Checklist – A handy list of all of the activities, so that you can mark which ones have already been used with your class!
An alternative set of resources is also included for use with older learners. These include images of older teenagers and adults instead of children and do not include references to ‘school’. Thanks to our member Carey for this suggestion! Watch the video below to view samples of resources from the Early Morning Activity Pack 2.

Since signing up to Teaching Packs this has been my go-to pack for daily warm-up ideas. Not only do they stimulate the children´s minds but they also get them socialising and interacting with each other and myself, the teacher. It´s also been great to use these ideas to break up the lesson as well as lesson openers. I have found that getting the students to write or discuss something completely off topic can get them re-focused and ready to continue with the syllabus. It´s a great follow-on from the first pack and full of amazing ideas which have really helped me to reduce my lesson planning time. I´d be lost without this pack so thank you for creating it! 🙂
I used these as part of my morning literacy rotations. I found my guys were keen to think outside the box. These were also great writing stimulations for my infant class last year. Now using it for my new role as learning support for year 5 students who dislike learning, who want to be spoon fed, and won't take risks. They are enjoying them and we (class teacher and I) are seeing an attitude change. Thank you
Both of these packs have been a great resource and my class have really enjoyed thinking about and discussing the different ideas posed in them. I have also found them invaluable when creating writing ideas for Big Writing sessions. Thank you.
This is a great resource. My class filter into class from 8.40 so this gives them a focus when they come in. It has saved me a lot of time.
I used this with my class this past school year. Such a great resource. My students loved completing this activity as soon as they came into the classroom, and it allowed me to complete a few housekeeping activities before our official start.
Used the 1st early morning pack loads with Y1 class This one will be just as useful. Ideal for transition periods between sessions - have up on IWB so chn can discuss whilst waiting for others to return from activities. We then spend 1-2 mins taking feedback
I have used this pack with my P3 class this session. This has provided my class with a meaningful and settled start each morning. What's more, my pupils loved completing the different tasks and enjoyed discussing/sharing their learning with their peers.
Thanks for a great resource 🙂
This pack is really useful for engaging the children and allowing a purposeful start to the morning. I use activities regularly to get the children settled quickly whilst those morning admin duties are completed.
I've been using the Early Morning Activity Packs since September 2014 and they are an absolute lifesaver! My class of lively and sometimes unruly Year 5's love them so much that they get very upset if they walk in the door and can't see an activity on the Smartboard. I also had one starter up at the beginning of an appraisal observation and my assistant head teacher was blown away with the discussion that the activity stimulated! Thank you so much!!!
These are great for getting the children to settle first thing in the morning. Very easy to use, just put them on the IWB and they know to start working on it. Great for getting the children to think out the box and getting those creative minds fired-up.
