  • The Milky Way is a galaxy. The name “Milky Way” comes from Latin “Via Lactea”, the road of milk. Research other words that have come into English from Latin. This webpage is a good starting point.
  • In many places it is not possible to see the Milky Way because of light pollution. Ask the children to identify sources of light pollution in the environment around them. Why do they think there is so much light pollution now? How would it have been different in the past?
  • Make a book collection of stories about stars, for example Laura’s Star by Klaus Baumgart.
